Taiyo Na is On Top Once Again!

The winner for this months’ original song contest was… ta-da! Taiyo Na! Though the submissions for the contest were overwhelming with talent and originality, our chosen winner was Taiyo Na’s “Lovely to Me (Immigrant Mother)”. As we celebrate the traits that make our culture unique and powerful, wasn’t it the generation of parents that took the effort to SHOW us the journey of courage and perseverance the real champions of our heritage? And for that very reason, Taiyo Na and his song is back in the spotlight.

“Lovely to Me (Immigrant Mother)” will take you back to moments any immigrant family can deeply connect with. While there are some lyrics that will definitely pull your heart strings, this song is of hope, strength, tenacity and most importantly, the pride of being part of a generation of immigrant families. So turn up the volume, reminisce on the good times that made you grieve and laugh and always remember to carry that medal of heritage like Taiyo. To hear the winning song, please log on to www.ialink.tv or you can visit www.taiyona.com.

What's going on with Asian and Asian American Artists

Gossip, News & Randoms: What’s going on with Asian and Asian American artists?

Malea McGuinness – Oh the sweet light! Though many would say music is something you listen to, there is no question you’ll be able to feel the warmth of her sweet light in Malea’s new album “True Believer”. Not only does she move you with inspiring words and heartfelt melodies like “Dreamer” and “True Believer”, but she is also using her passion to keep the flames burning for a higher cause; that is, uniting Korean Americans with each other and Korea the land itself. With All Access Magazine’s Female Vocalist of the Year award already under her belt, she is turning heads, opening ears and touching hearts as her songs continues to gain momentum.

Okay, okay, we know you want to hear what the commotion is all about and it would be a tragedy to keep her songs to ourselves so go check her out at www.myspace.com/maleamcg and see what she’s up to at maleamusic.com. An angel is said to be the one who instills hope for the hopeless. With so much heartbreak, sadness and tyranny going on in North Korea, Ms. McGuinness and her strong desire to reconnect with her culture is raising awareness and resurrecting a fortress of hope for the hopeless. So go show your support for this lovely angel by requesting her songs at your local station, purchasing her CDs, or even just by spreading the word because she’s just getting started ladies and gentlemen! We have a feeling she’s going to be around for a looooong time!

Odessa Chen – With a voice so hauntingly elegant and lyrics so intriguing, how can anyone resist the charm and charisma of Odessa Chen? She has been touring and introducing her latest release “The Ballad of Paper Ships” internationally and has been gaining much respect for her unique, ethereal approach to music. Couple her alluring voice with electric bassist Devin Hoff and drummer Rich Douthit and you got yourself an album that can provoke any emotion from one end of the spectrum to the other.

Recently she was been collaborating with big named artists like Vienna Teng, Goh Nakamura, the Moore Brothers and have also been asked to be a part of a special musical series called Project Soundwave which involves music and motion. You can check out her latest news and keep posted on their projects at www.odessachen.com. On top of everything else on her plate, she has also managed to help keep our Earth green and clean by supporting Groovehouse Records where her new album was printed. Can’t get any sweeter than that, right?! Keep your ears wide open for her latest and check in here at www.imaginasianradio.com to see when she’ll be casting her spell on your city next!

The Identity Crisis – Listen up folks! The Record of the Year is up for grabs! You heard right. Identity Crisis’ Paul Castro has gone solo and have created an album that refuses to be ignored. He has combined elements of rock, hip hop, electronica, soul, funk and reggae to help you form an idea of what he’s all about. "It's like a buffet for your ears. I couldn't help it, but at the same time, I didn't force it. That's just my style." He’s not just this or that. He’s ALL that AND a bag of chips! Minus a few tracks, the entire album is written, produced and performed solely by Mr. Castro and it’s easy to get to know who he is by the characteristics he displays in his album “The Record of the Year”. You can go purchase your own copy (or maybe even just a taste) at www.identitycrisis.com and also keep tabs on his upcoming events. Of course, if you get lazy, we’ll be listing his stuff here too under the Events section. Now let’s go funk!
