Asian Pacific American Heritage MonthAsian Pacific American Heritage Month first began with a 1978 Congressional Resolution to celebrate a week of Asian Pacific American history. This week, scheduled for the beginning of May, coincided with two important anniversaries. The first was the May 7, 1843 inaugural arrival of Japanese immigrants to America. The latter was the May 10, 1869 completion of the great American transcontinental railroad, largely by Chinese laborers. The week would later become a month-long observance. Now that you have some knowledge of the history of Asian Pacific Heritage Month, you should represent it right. Hit up your local Asian Pacific American festivals and support your local musicians. If you are in New York City, you must attend the 28th Annual APA Heritage Festival this Sunday in Union Square Park, featuring performances by Misnomers, Vudoo Soul, and many more… While you’re there, don’t forget to stop by the iaTV booth for games and goodies. See you there! Gossip, News & Randoms: What's going on with Asian and Asian American Artists
Misnomers – It has certainly been one hot minute since we’ve heard from the ladies of Misnomers. They have been in the studio, sharpening their skills and laying down tracks for their highly anticipated new album release, Bridging the Gap. They’ve also confided that they are busy building a studio and creating their own beats. In honor of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, they have decided to come out of the lab and bless the rest of us with a few performances. (Details are listed below, in the Events section.) We suggest that you come through for these shows. We expect that they may head right back into the studio afterwards. So, it may be a while before you can see them perform live again. For more information on Misnomers, please visit: The Happy Analogues – The Jersey City-based rock group has generated quite a buzz in the underground rock scene with the release of their two-sided single, “Minimum Memory Required”. “Beautiful Pain” was selected to be a part of a Filipino American-produced compilation album benefiting victims of the 2006 Leyte landslide in the Philippines. They are presently releasing their latest effort, “Lilacs and Politics” and will be holding a CD release party in NYC. (Details are listed below, in the Events section.) They will be playing songs from their new CD and will also have very special lineup of guest performers (including Bleud, The Kuwagos, PI, Blue Mellon Pop, Noizytoyz, and triCKBag). For more information on the band and their new CD, simply log on to: Dengue Fever – One of ImaginAsian Radio’s favorite in-language bands has been around the world touring and recently landed in Cambodia. We do believe that they were the first foreign band to visit the country since the fall of communism. They later compiled a documentary from the footage they filmed while spending a month in the country. They will be playing a few shows in Los Angeles during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and will also be screening their documentary, Sleepwalking Through the Mekong. (Details are listed below, in the Events section.) For more information on the band, tour dates or the documentary, please log on to: Just In
