Center Stage

Jay Legaspi

Pulling from influences ranging from John Mayer to Jay-Z, and just as comfortable in venues ranging from cafe open mics to legendary venues to street corner cyphers, Jay is attempting make his own brand of Acoustic Music: a style his friends and contemporaries call "Acoustic Soul" or "GuitaR&B".

The man has been gigging NYC for a hot minute now and he has a slew of shows lined up ready to heat it up before the summer hits us. He has just launched his own website where he is giving away free mp3 downloads of some of his songs and features a radio player. I know you wondering where you can catch this man live. What’s the use of www.jaylegaspi.com if I’m just gonna spoon-feed it to you.

Gossip, News & Randoms:
What's going on with Asian and Asian American Artists

Jasmine Trias - This young lady won’t stop and it’s not cause she can’t stop. First, she took third place on American Idol a few years ago. She went on a world tour. She is the spokesperson for a clothing company, a tooth paste, and appeared in a cell phone commercial. On top of all that, she released her a CD and had a Happy Meal named after her in the Phillipines.

Now she is featured in the latest issue of People magazine, the April 16th, 2007 issue. She has also re-released her CD in the Philippines, a repackaged edition, two-CD set featuring two new songs. For more information on Jasmine, the People magazine article or to purchase the CD, please visit her official site, www.jasminetrias.net.

Lyrics Born - In between tour dates and studio recording, Quannum Projects artist Lyrics Born stopped by Studio C to talk about his upcoming projects, crate digging, and the evolution of hip-hop. Even without labelmate Lateef, LB flawlessly performed one of Latryx's classic singles "Lady Don't Tek No." You can peep the interview at http://music.download.com/2001-12619_32-0.html. Also he has posted a live recording of a new joint off his new album on his MySpace page, www.myspace.com/lyricsborn. For more information on his shows, new album and new music, please visit www.lyricsborn.com.

Anoushka Shankar - Anoushka takes a Stand for PETA, once again joins the campaign against cruelty to animals. She is demanding better care and treatment for thousands of animals who lead miserable lives in zoos all across India and other parts of the world.

On the musical note, we recently caught up with Ms. Shankar at her concert in NYC a couple of months ago. She is still on her last leg of her North American tour and will be heading to Europe to bless the heads on the other continent with her music. For more information on Anoushka, her music and the tour, please log on to www.anoushkashankar.com.
