Carol Bui’s CD Release Party and Birthday Celebration

Jeff Buckley was once pitched to a Columbia Records A&R man as a "Heritage Artist", in the same vein as Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. Carol Bui emerges from their shadow as perhaps the most singular and distinct voice of the Washington, DC music scene. This is music for people who listen to records.

Save the Date: Monday, October 1st, 2007, Carol Bui will be celebrating both her birthday and the release of her latest album, Everyone Wore White, on 54º40’ or Fight. She mentions that they will be touring extensively for the new album and she has even posted a free MP3s for you to get a sneak peek of the new material. You can give it a listen HERE. For more information on the CD release and birthday celebration, please see the Events section below or log on to www.carolbui.com.

Gossip, News & Randoms: What’s going on with Asian and Asian American artists?

Dengue Fever - Dengue Fever's unique fusion of pop and world music sensibilities has garnered critical acclaim ever since their eponymous debut CD. Their 2005 release Escape From Dragon House has brought them to a global audience, widening their exposure. The band has spent much of the last two years touring the globe, winning over new fans in the United States, Canada, and Europe.

The Los Angeles-based group heads to the Bay Area for two performance dates on September 14 and 15, 2007. This fall, Dengue Fever will be performing some West Coast and Southwest tour dates and will perform at WOMEX, the world music festival in Spain. The band’s third CD, Venus On Earth, will be released in 2008. For more information on the two dates in September, please the Events section below or you can check out the band’s site at www.denguefevermusic.com.

Operation Babylift: The Lost Children of Vietnam - In war-torn Vietnam, impoverished orphanages swelled with abandoned infants and children, many the offspring of American GIs. They were the lost children, bui doi, the dust of life. As a desperate measure, Ed Daly (President of World Airways) commissioned his own flight and left Vietnam with 57 children on board. In the last days before the Fall of Saigon, time was of the essence. Volunteers worked under the most strained of conditions, with minimal supplies and food. With the impending Fall of Saigon only weeks away, President Gerald R. Ford ordered a $2 million initiative to airlift Vietnamese orphans to safety on April 3, 1975.

Now, Operation Babylift: The Lost Children of Vietnam, a documentary on the airlift of Vietnamese orphans to North America, produced by Tammy Nguyen Lee, is premiering in 2008. It features the music of Thomas's Apartment and singer/songwriter Jared Rehberg, one of the 2,000 plus babies that came over on Operation Babylift. There is a trailer that is available on YouTube, you can watch it HERE

New York – Tokyo Music Festival 2007 – This festival is designed to bring the Japanese and mainstream North American music cultures together. The festival last year was bananas, it featured Talib Kweli, DJ A-Trax, HiFANA, Mighty Crown, PE’Z and gaming stations displaying the latest in video games.

This year, it is no different!! The festival will feature some of the biggest names in hip hop from both countries. From the U.S.: MF Doom, Pharoahe Monch, Collie Buddz, Kool DJ Red Alert and from Japan: Teriyaki Boyz, DJ Uppercut, Roscoe P. Coldchain and Kenny Muhammad. Please believe that is an event not to be missed. For more information, please see the Events Section below or log on to www.newyork-tokyo.com.
