Gossip, News & Randoms:
What's going on with Asian and Asian American Artists

Gossip, News & Randoms: What’s going on with Asian and Asian American artists?

Phonofly - Phonofly’s mixture of rock-soul hotness, intricate guitar riffs, and a reggae tinge creates a one of a kind sound. It is simple to enjoy and dance to, but the music remains lush in its creativity. With a voice that shifts from accompanying the music to driving it, Steph Stolorow’s vocals make Phonofly easy to fall for. Her delivery varies from ethereal melody weaving to sultry lounge singing to rhyme-spitting – indicative of the varied styles that embody the group as a whole.

On Wednesday, September 12th, 2007, Phonofly will be opening up for Los Angeles’ own Jupiter Rising. This show will celebrate the release of their latest effort, Electropop. If you are in the Bay Area, save the date, because this is not a show to be missed. For more information, please see the events section below or visit www.phonofly.com.

Phyllis Chang - This woman has been around for a hot minute now. She has dropped Forgiveness, On a Carpet Ride, and naturally, Sing Along and Dance Along with Phyllis Chang for the Little Ones. She has made the trek all the way from the West Coast to New York City for gigs and was kind enough to grace the ImaginAsian Radio studios with an interview and a live performance.

Now she is releasing her newest effort and will be throwing a party along with never heard before performance of new joints off the new album, Never Alone. Please support this great musician and make sure you attend this event. Also, if that is not enough to get you out to see her perform, she mentioned that her CD is currently in production and has to make its way across the U.S.A. She hopes that it will arrive the day prior to her scheduled CD release party, so come out to see if it has arrived. For more information, please see the events section below.

New York – Tokyo Music Festival 2007 – This festival is designed to bring the Japanese and mainstream North American music cultures together. Last year, the festival was bananas; it featured Talib Kweli, DJ A-Trax, HiFANA, Mighty Crown, PE’Z and gaming stations displaying the latest in video games.

This year, it is no different! The festival features some of the biggest names in hip hop from both countries. From the U.S.: MF Doom, Pharoahe Monch, Collie Buddz, Kool DJ Red Alert and from Japan: Teriyaki Boyz, DJ Uppercut, Roscoe P. Coldchain and Kenny Muhammad. Please believe that event is not to be missed. For more information, please see the events Section below or log on to www.newyork-tokyo.com.
