VICTOR WOO - THE AVERAGE ASIAN AMERICAN

Over the past decade, Kevin So’s music has, in essence, been the unofficial soundtrack of Asian America. Now Mr. So’s extensive repertoire has been molded into a musical, VICTOR WOO - THE AVERAGE ASIAN AMERICAN, music and lyrics by Kevin So, and the book written by Kevin Merritt. This hotly anticipated new musical will premiere during a coveted slot in New York City's International Fringe Festival .

In the 1980s, preteen Victor Woo dreams of becoming a pop star sensation. However, his Chinese-born parents envision a very different future for Victor. Confronting cultural expectations and media stereotypes, VICTOR WOO - THE AVERAGE ASIAN AMERICAN reconciles his duty to his family, his heritage, and himself. Gossip, News & Randoms: What’s going on with Asian and Asian American artists?

Surya Dub - With monthly shows for years now, Maneesh the Twister has been bringing you heat with Dhamaal. Now he is representing Surya Dub. Surya Dub is the next level in global dubwize vibes and dread bass culture. Surya Dub is uniting all dubwize communities from roots reggae to dubstep and ragga to dread bass breakbeat and drum'n'bass.

This month, Surya Dub features East Coast sensation, Sub Swara, Roommate, and Jay Yzer. Of course, Maneesh the Twister, alongside Kush Arora, Ripley, Kid Kameleon, and DJ Ohashi will bring the heat as usual. This month’s Surya Dub will be sick! For more information, you can check out the events section below or visit www.suryadub.com.

Charmaine Clamor - Originally from Subic, Zambales and now a resident of Los Angeles, Ms. Clamor is the creator of jazzipino. It is a musical form that combines American jazz and blues traditions with the melodies, languages, and instruments of traditional Filipino music. Her new album, Flippin' Out, contains beloved kundiman and harana elements, integrated with contemporary soul and swing. Flippin' Out is receiving heavy airplay across America, as well as in Australia and Canada. Charmaine has been extraordinarily successful in introducing mainstream listeners to the beauty of Filipino music.

On Sunday, September 16th, 2007, Charmaine Clamor, the first Filipina to find success on American jazz radio, will celebrate the release of her new CD, Flippin' Out, released by FreeHam Record, at the Beehive in Boston. For more information, please see the events section below or simply log on to www.charmaineclamor.com.

New York – Tokyo Music Festival 2007 – This festival is designed to bring the Japanese and mainstream North American music cultures together. Last year, the festival was bananas! It featured Talib Kweli, DJ A-Trax, HiFANA, Mighty Crown, PE’Z, and gaming stations displaying the latest in video games.

This year will be no different! The 2007 festival features some of the biggest names in hip hop from both countries. (From the U.S.: MF Doom, Pharoahe Monch, Collie Buddz, and Kool DJ Red Alert ; From Japan: Teriyaki Boyz, DJ Uppercut, Roscoe P. Coldchain, and Kenny Muhammad.) Please believe that event is not to be missed. For more information, please see the event section below or log on to www.newyork-tokyo.com.

Re-up

This past week, NUZ from The Hip Hop Hour was at Hiro to watch both DJ Snak and DJ Spinbad do their thing. He will also be at the Che’Nelle performance on the roof of Capitol Records in NYC. Sorry, but this is an industry only event. Nonetheless, we will pass along the word and let you know how the performance went down.
