Gossip, News & Randoms: What’s going on with Asian and Asian American artists?

Asian American Music Showcase’s Summer Series - The Summer installments of 2007 returns to multi-genre showcases. Like the inaugural AAMS, a music series produced by Monkey King Records, from summer of 2006, the series will again present the diversity of musical styles, which reflect Asian and American musical influences as well as Asian American perspectives distinctive to the San Francisco Bay Area.

There will be two showcases coming up; AAMS #9 will take place on August 22nd, 2007 and will feature MUD, Say Bok Gwai, Isul Kim Band and Sky and Telescope and AAMS #10 takes place about a month later on September 19th, 2007 and it will feature Radio Pornography, Lumaya, Say Bok Gwai and All Ages. As time draws closer to the showcase, we will give you updates. For more information on AAMS, please visit www.monkeykingrecords.com/aams.

JAZZPHIL-USA Needs Volunteers & Committee Members - This organization is devoted to showcasing the talents of Filipino artists not only to the many Filipino-American communities throughout the U.S.A. but also to the mainstream American jazz audience. It will serve as a platform to advance, promote, assist and support Filipino jazz artists, whether locally based or visiting from other parts of the world.

They are currently taking applications for Volunteers and Committee Members for the Third Annual JAZZPHIL-USA Festival which will take place in December. Vacant positions include Membership Committee Chair, Sponsorship Committee Chair, Committee Members and Festival Volunteers. If you are interested in any of these positions, please email volunteer@jazzphil-usa.com or for more information, please visit www.jazzphil-usa.com.

DJ Roli Rho – Unless you've been under a rock for the past two years, you definitely know about the one and only DJ Roli Rho. DJing for about 7 years now, he had already locked down the Asian American party scene in NY area, before he became known as one of the fiercest beat jugglers. He is the main headliner of the 5th Platoon Crew and one of the original 3, starting with his placing in the USA DMC 96 finals.

He had a Friday spot on ImaginAsian Radio, The Roli Rho Hour and he has recently moved on to bigger and better things. He is also a part of the mighty 5th Platoon Crew and with hard work and the constant grind; they follow in the footsteps of Jay-Z and 50 Cent they now have their own shoe. You can click HERE . Huge congratulations go out to DJ Roli Rho and the entire 5th Platoon Crew.
