The First Annual Asian Hip Hop Summit in NYCOn Saturday, July 14th, 2007, the first annual Asian Hip Hop Summit New York will take place in NYC. A festival celebrating outstanding Asiatic rap talent, Asian Hip Hop Summit first originated in Koreatown, Los Angeles, in April 2002, on the 10th anniversary of the LA Riots. Since then, the Asian Hip Hop Summit has launched the performing careers of countless Asiatic musicians and artists, while also spawning a politicized teen-based hip hop subculture and music scene in K-Town LA. Now, for the first time, Asian Hip Hop Summit will be held in the city that gave birth to hip hop. This will be a truly historic occasion, bringing together the best of West Coast and East Coast Asiatic hip hop in the cultural capital of the United States. The West Coast will be represented by Dumbfoundead from Koreatown, Los Angeles, and by Magnetic North from the Bay Area. The East Coast will be represented by Miss Info, Flow Sik, El Gambina and more. Gossip, News & Randoms: What's going on with Asian and Asian American Artists
Gossip, News & Randoms: What’s going on with Asian and Asian American artists?Heather Park – She was introduced to the music scene in 2002, when she made a choice to pursue music instead of graduate school, much to the disapproval of her parents. While working at a deli in New York City, her demo caught the attention of the programming director of New York's Hot 97, and so began her musical career. She was recently knocking competition out of the box left and right in the Emergenza Music Festival, which puts artists up against other artists, similar to battle of the bands. Heather put all her competition to shame round after round in the festival. She made it all the way to the finals, but we are sorry to report that she did not take the crown to defend the title in Germany. But all of us here at iaRadio are very proud of Ms. Park and look for her to be in the studio soon to talk about her experience. Jammin’ Asian - Jammin' Asian recently celebrated their one year anniversary and they are still continuing their tradition of bringing you new and exciting monthly showcases at the Laugh Lounge NYC and still are featuring some of the best Asian American singers and comedians that New York has to offer! Hosted by Korean Joke Teller Tom Hudson and Filipino funny man Air Tabigue, Jammin' Asian fuses music and laughter like no other. This is a MUST SEE show! Their next show takes place on July 10th, 2007 (details listed below in the Events Section) in New York City and if you are a July baby (that means you were born in July) you get in for FREE. This time around, Jammin’ Asian will feature Ruhbin Mehta (Laugh Lounge), Jiwon Li (NBC Standup for Diversity 2006 Finalist), Maritess the Magician (Las Vegas), Jason Castillo (Salvesam), John Violago (Five Points), Jing R.A. (CBGB). For more information, please visit www.myspace.com/jamminasian. Kaila Yu – You may be familiar with Kaila Yu from a wide range of sources; you may remember her from her days of being a model in the Import Car scene, her current role as a pop star, the countless magazines covers she has graced, shows she has hosted, and various mainstream music videos and movies. Now she has taken on a new role to go with the many hats that she already wears; she has taken on the role of being an actress. She has a role in an upcoming film "Like Colors, No Bleach" and she has released a small clip on her MySpace blog, you can check it out HERE. Just In
