DJ Sharmaji on ImaginAsian Radio

Sharmaji creates a bass-heavy, post-desi sound that is as consistently powerful as it is diverse in background-- and completely NYC. His productions have been spun all through the states and UK by DJ's like Bobby Friction and Nihal, Shiva Soundsystem, the Avaaz/G.O.O.N.D.A. crews, DJ Rekha, Cheb-i Sabbah, DhamaalSF, and countless others. As a DJ and percussionist he's brought his riddims to artists as diverse as Karsh Kale, Ming & FS, Tina Sugandh, JUNGLI, and Timbaland's hookstress RajeSwari, as well as for NYC's 9-years-strong Basment Bhangra party and hometown bhangra sensation Bikram Singh.

Now Dave Sharma aka Sharmaji has descended upon ImaginAsian Radio to bring you the best of his production, other world artists and great interviews and special guests. His new show, Chalis HZ, will be debuting on ImaginAsian Radio in the coming months. But in the meantime, you can check out two HUGE events he has lined up. First, he will be featured on BBC Radio1 alongside Dhruva of Sub Swara in a soundclash with Skull Disco. Next, he will be teaming up with Sub Swara for their monthly set in New York City with Freq Nasty (details listed below in the Events Section). What's going on with Asian and Asian American Artists

Gossip, News & Randoms: What’s going on with Asian and Asian American artists?

Franki Love - “All I want to do with music is give it to others. Share my heart and soul.”, a quote taken from the lady herself. She grew up in New York City but now lives in Los Angeles. She misses the people in NYC, but she loves LA and says that the warm weather inspires her.

She was part of the IndieGo concert in Los Angeles that was sponsored by ImaginAsian Radio and also featured Kiyoshi Graves, Scott Tang, Kevin So and friends. Now, Franki Love is in New York City and playing gigs around town. If you are interested in her or the New York City concerts, please visit www.frankilove.com.

Carol Bui – Carol states that she creates music for people who listen to records. Carol's second full-length, "Everyone Wore White", is the product of a collaboration between Carol and Aloha's TJ Lipple, who is also prominently featured on drums. Smarter and more raucous than anything you've heard in recent years, the record is colored with scratchy strings, agitated guitars, and stories of displaced spirituality, psychosis, and a bicultural coming-of-age.

She has announced that the new album, “Everyone Wore White” will be released on October 2nd, and has also released the track listing. For those that are interested in her new work or want to find out more on her concert dates, log on to www.carolbui.com for more information.

Vudoo Soul – The man has been around for a minute now. He has taken the crown for Kollaboration New York and Asian Elevation in Los Angeles. Now he is offering a free show in Westminster, CA. All you need to do is email Vudoo Soul at vudootickets@gmail.com, and provide a first & last name, plus number of guests. You can then pick up your free tickets from Vudoo Soul's Guestlist at will-call the day of the show at the venue. For information on the show, please see the Events Section, below.

Re-up

This past week, Kiyoshi Graves came all the way from Los Angeles to stop by the ImaginAsian Radio studios to perform some exclusive songs and sat down for an interview. Also, the Five Points Mission of Chinatown, New York City just had a going away party for one of their long-time volunteers and ex ImaginAsian Radio intern, Ms. Tiffany Moore. She will be making a trip to China and all of us here at ImaginAsian Radio wish her the best on her trip.
