Center Stage

IndieGo featuring Scott Tang, Kyoshi Graves, Kevin So and friends.

IndieGo 2007 will be an evening of great music and great friends featuring a unique line-up of Asian American singer-songwriters. This line-up of musical artists has never performed on the same stage and is likely not to perform on the same stage ever again. Few other events bring together this caliber of creative talent from within the Asian American community to perform in one night on one stage.

The night will begin with Virginia Kim aka Ginnicide, featuring her haunting vocals and piano-playing backed by a cellist, violinist and oboe player. Scott Tang and his band will follow playing Scott’s infectious brand of piano pop, including some never-before-heard new songs that will be on his upcoming, yet-to-be-titled second album. Then, Franki Love, fresh from completing her first full-length album, will perform a set accompanied by the percussionist who plays with India Arie’s band. Kiyoshi Graves and his band will take the stage next and rock the crowd with songs from his recently-released album Chase. All the way from New York, Kevin So will close out the night with his band, performing Kevin’s vibrant mix of R&B, rock, folk and hip hop to celebrate the release of his brand new album A Brighter Day. Gossip, News & Randoms:
What's going on with Asian and Asian American Artists

VASCON 3 - The annual Vietnamese American Students Conference has become the feature event for Vietnamese students from around the country to explore issues and developments in Vietnamese American culture. With its theme, “Lighting the Path,” VASCON seeks to educate its participants about the issues affecting the Vietnamese American community through educational seminars, interactive workshops, and entertainers. VASCON’s most anticipated event is their closing concert that includes rising R&B star, Vudoo Soul, California based Rock band, Thomas Apartment, and Texas native singer, Amy Tran. The event takes place on March 30th-April 1st, 2007 at Austin Convention Center located at 500 E Cesar Chavez St., Austin, TX 78701. For more information, please visit www.vascon3.org.

NYU Chinese Mei Society’s Yuan 2007 - From dance, live music, and traditional lion dancing, NYU’s Chinese Mei Society’s annual culture show, Yuan, celebrates Asian culture through an array of artistic performances. Originally starting as a small social group, CMS soon became one of the most influential Asian clubs at NYU and later produced Yuan, one of the signature kick-off shows for the campus’ APA Heritage Month celebration. With fashion shows featuring top designers and music performances from prominent APA artists, Yuan has since become one of APA Heritage Month’s feature shows. This year’s special guest performers include hip-hop/classical fusion band, Stone Forest Ensemble, and soulful Filipino guitarist, Alfa Garcia. Proceeds from the event will go to China Care, an organization that provides special medical care to orphaned children in Asia. New York Seoul Variety Hour feat. Taiyo Na- In today's culture it's rare to come across an artist who is more than the latest trend or gimmick, be it a rapper, spoken word poet or R&B singer. Rarely is there an artist who is raw and real and simply true to the music, true to the art, the higher purpose of art, which is to understand life, express life and affirm life. Taiyo Na, poet/musician/actor and native New Yorker, is a founder of the feedback poets collective (1999-2003), the legendary (re)collection open mics (2000-2003), Mauritius a.k.a Time Machine: the band (2003-2005), and is Artistic Director of the Sulu Series at Galapagos Arts Space. Please visit www.myspace.com/wholeheartmusic.

His performance for the New York Seoul Variety Hour will take place Thursday, March 22nd, 2007 from 7pm - 10pm at Player's - 25 West 32nd St, 2nd Floor, New York City and it will be a FREE performance. For more information, please visit www.newyorkseoul.com.
