Center Stage

Karaterice Presents IsFest V on 2/22/07 in NYC

For 2007, ImaginAsian Radio’s very own DJ Mariati of KarateRice is bringing a 6-pack of Japanese rock 'n' roll madness with its fifth edition of ISFEST. ISFEST will present a couple of local favorites along with some new faces from the underground Japanese rock scene. The bands on center stage for the night will be UZUHI, BULLETPROOF JUNKIES, THE B.C.P., THE RICECOOKERS, SPARKY QUANO, and YUMMY77.

If you’ve ever tuned into the KarateRice Hour on Monday nights from 8-10pm (EST) and witnessed the crazy punk rock that blares out of your speakers, then you will know what is in store for you at ISFEST. Do not miss the festivities! The event takes place at the Knitting Factory at 74 Leonard Street, New York, NY. Doors open at 6pm and the fun begin at 6:30pm. For more information on this event and Karate Rice, please log on to www.karaterice.com.

Gossip, News & Randoms:
What's going on with Asian and Asian American Artists

Jasmine Trias - What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but for this smart, sophisticated star, Las Vegas will not be enough, she will be making waves that will travel worldwide. She will start her residency at The Flamingo Hotel in Las Vegas in February with The Society of Seven. Jasmine's schedule for performing at the Flamingo starts on February 15 and will run until March 21st 2007. Her shows are Wednesday through Sunday.

She also just landed a weekly MTV News/TRL show that follows the American Idol Season 6 follies. Jasmine Trias will also be a celebrity judge on a kids' talent contest "Small Kids/Big Talent" on The Tyra Banks show, airing in February. She will also be making appearances on three American Idol national follow-up shows: "American Idol Extra", "American Idol Tonight", and "It's your Call ". For more information on the star, check out her fan site, www.allthatjas.net.

Surya Dub – Last month, the ImaginAsian Radio Newsletter announced the launch of a new monthly event by Maneesh the Twister, Surya Dub. Surya Dub is the next level in Global Dubwize Vibes and Dread Bass Culture. Needless to say, the event was a great success and for all those that were not in town to catch the event, you can check out a video here. You can also take a look at the SF Weekly review on the event, here.

After you checked out the clip and read the review, make sure not to miss the next Surya Dub event taking place on February 24th, 2007. Keep your eyes glued to the ImaginAsian Radio Newsletters for more updates on this monthly event.

The Speaks – The band checked in from Asia where they just completed their press conference and radio tour to update everyone in the Philippines about their next album. They are actually working with some HUGE names for their upcoming album. Some notables – legandary producer, Chucky Thompson (producer of Mary J. Blige’s album, P. Diddy, Nas, TLC, etc.), Scott Spellbring (producer of Jason Mraz, Dave Matthews Band), just to name a few. The band is making strides and promises that ImaginAsian Radio will get some exclusives when the time comes. The album promises to deliver more of The Speaks and we are waiting to see what touches Chucky Thompson add to the songs, since I hear that this is the first time that he has worked with a rock band.
