Center Stage

Manjit

Following the success of a string of acoustic shows in NYC, singer/songwriter Manjit releases an EP of five songs, The Acoustic EP. Recording with her producer Brian Bauers and guitarist Ashish Seth, the EP showcases the strength of her songwriting through topics such as the celebration of life, the blissful joy of falling in love and also the painful emotions associated with heartache.

Available on iTunes in late Feb/early March, this young lady expresses her emotions in a very personal and heartfelt manner. With soulful influences ranging from India Arie, Tracey Chapman, Sade and Lata Mangheskar, Manjit brings a new sensual and spiritual thread to songwriting with influences of her own East Indian culture. Johnny Hi-Fi- After dramatic band breakup, Johnny Hi-Fi is back. Last August, in the midst of recording their double album, preparing for its Asia tour and rehearsing for the Billboard Magazine showcase, a public fist fight among the band broke out in classic rock star style. Half the band split, and all their master recordings were mysteriously stolen and held for $12,000 ransom...all happening two weeks before the band had to press the CDs and board the plane to Asia. But as you can tell, Johnny Hi-Fi has prevailed, after a much-needed breather.

Ken Oak Band – If you didn’t know already, Ken Oak Band released Vienna to Venice toward the end of 2006. If you haven’t already picked up the album, what are you waiting for? You can listen to select songs on their MySpace page, www.myspace.com/kenoakband.

Also, XMU, a station on XM radio, has started playing their song "Summer's Kiss". The band asks that you send them a request to play it. The email address for the station is xmu@xmradio.com, or you can call their request line @ 1.866.BUG.THEU.

2007 NTDTV Chinese New Year Spectacular - Celebrate the new year by experiencing traditional Chinese culture with soulful two-stringed erhu, invigorating drums, dancing Dai girls, maidens, mythical dragons, and much more. New Tang Dynasty Television brings the Chinese New Year Spectacular for a 26-city global tour with more than 1000 performers. With its eclectic art forms, set designs, and classical theatrical performances, this show will captivate audiences around the world. Keep your eyes peeled for performances in selected cities near you.

Taking place from January 5-7, 2006 at the San Francisco War Memorial House, 310 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco, CA. Also, January 9-10: The Kodak Theatre, 6801 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, CA. For more information, please visit www.ntdtv.com.

Re-up

This past week, we received the new Manjit CD, The Acoustic EP, and we must say that it is very good. Also, Bay Area emcee, Emcee T, was in New York City and took some time out to stop by the studio and let us know what is going on with his career and the Asian American hip hop scene in Oakland. We were also ecstatic to hear that Johnny Hi-Fi has gotten back on track and back to business. This week, please do make it a point to be in attendance for Kevin So’s CD release party in NYC and Asian Jammin’ Comedian Showcase.
