Center Stage

Putnam Hall

"I am conducting one hell of a punk rock experiment on my life,” says Lillard A., guitarist, singer, and primary songwriter of Putnam Hall.

In July ’05, armed with an invigorated sense of punk rock attitude (think Rancid) and thoughtful, multifaceted songwriting (think No Doubt), Putnam Hall went back to the studio with fervor to surpass the success of “brandnudemusic.” The resulting five-song EP, “Love and Industry”, is a dynamic blend of throaty vocals, raw guitars, and pulsating rhythms that recall the frustration of being locked in a suburban lifestyle that's just not for everyone.

In the meantime, listen to the songs on “Love and Industry” and hear the band’s sincere effort to fight for a life less ordinary, on iaList this Sunday.

Gossip, News & Randoms:
What's going on with Asian and Asian American Artists

Maggie Kim’s music video for "Obvious" is dropping today!! It’s the first video for the new EP and will be in rotation for two weeks on TV Tonic.

Winner of the Political Artist of Award, "No Man’s Land" is DMZ38’s full length debut album. All pre-orders include limited edition signed and personalized CDs. To find out more about him and the path he's blazing, go to www.dmz38.com

Kabir is the new rising son. And in more ways than one. The son of Amartya Sen, celebrated activist and winner of the Nobel prize in economic science, seems to have some big shoes to fill. His choice of kicks is not to fight on such a political platform but rather through music. With his new full length debut album “Peaceful Solutions” picking up some speed and getting great reviews (Herald Tribuine, NPR, New Yorker, MTV DESI), he is a new star to watch.

Engaged: Congratulations to Jinny Kim and Koo Chung, both on Broken For Good Records! Finding love through music or music through love...it always gives us hope!

Just In

Peep these tracks this week on iaList! You can also listen to them on imaginasianradio.com on our 24/7 streaming shows. Check the program guide for show times.

At Last || Slow It Down
R&B, iaList
The days of boy bands are over, and I’m not sure that they got the memo. But regardless, the smooth vocals and sweet harmonies are addictive. With clean looks and tracks for you to bump to, sigh to, and dream to, this may be the album that made you wonder where they've been all your life.

Wayne Hsu || A Boy Named Hsu EP
Rock, iaList
Dorky, quirky, and all that Wayne Hsu can be. Don’t let your eyes roam past this guy because he’ll sure surprise you with his fervor and love for music. He’s somewhere between Weezer and the Beatles. Tracks like the Rooster Song and Getting Dizzy are sure bets for that ride on the road.

Julia Lau || in the wildflowers and weeds
Acoustic, iaList
It’s hard to separate one singer/songwriter from another when they all are strumming guitars and cooing sweet nothings into the air. Julia Lau’s voice is seemingly orphaned but hopeful while she breezes through her album. Lyrics are poetic and not as forced as many writers when trying to create a hook. She’s effortless. Recommended Track: Fear
